A Laboratory is where tests are done on clinical specimens in order to get information about the health of a patient. Laboratory tests are a very important part of the work up of any patient and an aid to the physician in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient.

Through a partnership with LabCorp we are also able to provide a wide range of esoteric tests to aid the physician in the treatment of patients.

Through an agreement with St. Louis University Hospital we are able to provide testing on pathology and cytology specimens to aid the physician and surgeon.

Laboratory Service Definitions

Hematology is a department of the laboratory that studies blood and blood components. The most common test performed is a Complete Blood Count (CBC). The results of tests can help the physician identify and monitor patients with anemia and also the various types of leukemia.

Chemistry is a department of the laboratory that performs tests for such substances in the blood as cholesterol, triglycerides, blood sugar, heart and liver enzymes and therapeutic drugs. The results of tests can help the physician diagnose and treat diabetes, high cholesterol, kidney diseases, liver diseases, heart attacks as well as a variety of other illnesses. We also provide tests that help monitor many different medications such as Digoxin and Dilantin.

Coagulation testing is part of the Hematology department that performs Prothrombin Times (PTs) and Partial Thromboplastin Times (PTTs). These tests monitor blood clotting. Disorders involving coagulation can lead to an increases risk pf bleeding of the forming of blood clots.

Urinalysis testing is one of the most common methods of medical diagnosis. The results of testing the urine are frequently used to diagnose infections of the urinary tract.

Blood Bank Testing is a vital department in the laboratory that performs tests for blood types, cross matching and the identification of antibodies. This department prepares the blood used for blood transfusions.
